You are required to add all licensed operators in your household, including your young kids with permits, to your auto policy. You can purchase a liability only or a full coverage policy. AUTO INSURANCE
Personal auto coverage is mandatory in NYS and the minimum required liability limits you must carry are $25,000/$50,000 for bodily injury and $10,000 for property damage. You can insure a vehicle if you only have a learner’s permit. You can insure a car in NY if you have an out of state license, however you will be required to change your license to NYS within 30 days.
